“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Introduction to Our Articles of Faith
Dr. Roxanne Kemp
At Ebed-Melech University, our Articles of Faith form the cornerstone of our theological and educational foundation. Rooted in Christian values, they guide our mission, inspire our community, and reflect our commitment to faith and learning. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming, respectful, and enriching environment where individuals of all faiths and backgrounds can grow intellectually, spiritually, and personally.
Our Christian faith inspires values of love, service, and respect for all people. While these Articles of Faith provide the framework for our institution, we embrace diversity and inclusivity, recognizing that the respectful exchange of ideas and perspectives among individuals of various beliefs enhances our shared pursuit of knowledge and truth
Our Faith Foundation
The following statements represent the foundational beliefs that shape our mission and community life. These Articles of Faith guide how we teach, learn, and engage with one another while remaining open to the rich contributions of all who join us.
- The Bible
Consisting of all the books of the Old and New Testaments, the Bible is regarded as a divinely inspired text that reveals God’s nature, character, and will. It provides moral and spiritual guidance and addresses the human condition and destiny (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). - The Trinity
There is one God, eternally existing and manifesting Himself to us in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). - Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is central to our faith. He was supernaturally conceived, lived a sinless life, died for humanity’s sins, and was resurrected. He will return to earth personally, bodily, and visibly (Acts 1:11; Revelation 1:7). - The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit guides and empowers believers to live according to God’s will (John 14:26; Acts 1:8). - Humanity and Salvation
All people are created in God’s image but need salvation through Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23). Salvation is a gift of grace received through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). - The Church
The Church is the body of Christ, called to share the Gospel and manifest His love in the world (Matthew 28:19-20). - Education and Formation
Ebed-Melech University is committed to holistic education that integrates faith with intellectual growth, equipping students to serve and lead in their communities (Proverbs 4:7; Colossians 2:2-3).
Welcoming All Faiths and Backgrounds
While Ebed-Melech University is firmly rooted in Christian beliefs, we celebrate diversity and inclusivity as integral to our mission. We believe that engaging with individuals of various faiths and perspectives enriches the educational experience and fosters mutual understanding.
- Respect for All Faiths: We welcome students, faculty, and staff from all spiritual traditions and encourage respectful dialogue and collaboration.
- Shared Values: Our university focuses on universal principles such as integrity, compassion, and service, which transcend individual faiths and unite us as a community.
- Optional Participation: While we offer Christian practices like prayer and worship, participation is voluntary, ensuring a space where everyone feels valued and respected.
Our Vision for an Inclusive Community
We are inspired by scriptures such as:
- “I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people; and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one” (Romans 9:25), reminding us of God’s inclusive love.
- “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand” (Isaiah 64:8), affirming the unique value of every individual.
- “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28), reflecting our commitment to unity and mutual respect.
At Ebed-Melech University, we believe each individual has a divine purpose. Through faith, education, and community, we seek to nurture that potential in a way that honors both our Christian heritage and the diverse beliefs of our students and faculty. Together, we build a vibrant community united in the pursuit of truth, love, and service.
