Professional Background
- Eastman – Connect I&D Resource Group:
- Recruitment Chair Lead (Jul 2022 – Feb 2023): Sarah kept accurate records of new African American employees, providing guidance throughout their careers at Eastman. She also built strong relationships with HBCU campuses through informational sessions, promoting diversity and inclusion within the company.
- Society of Women Engineers:
- President (Aug 2020 – May 2021): Associated with Prairie View A&M University, Sarah led the organization, fostering a supportive community for women engineers.
- Vice President (Aug 2019 – Jul 2020): During her tenure, she played a crucial role in enhancing the Society’s outreach and support initiatives.
Engineering Experience
Currently serving as a Process Improvement Engineer, Sarah uses her chemical engineering degree to enhance processes at her plant and identify cost-saving opportunities. Her company collaborates with major refineries, including Shell and Exxon, utilizing catalysts for improved efficiency. Her previous roles include:
- Process Improvement Engineer at Eastman (Aug 2021 – Mar 2023): Focused on enhancing operational efficiencies in Longview, Texas.
- Chemical Engineering Intern at Albemarle Corporation (May 2021 – Aug 2021): Gained valuable industry experience in Pasadena, Texas.
- Maintenance Engineering Intern at Harris County Flood Control District (May 2019 – Aug 2019): Contributed to infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects in Houston, Texas.
Educational Background
Sarah’s educational journey began at Harmony Science Academy, where Project-Based Learning ignited her passion for science and mathematics. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University, a Historically Black College & University. Attending a university where she found peers who resembled her boosted her confidence and helped her recognize her rightful place in various industries, even those where African Americans are underrepresented.
We are confident that Sarah’s leadership and dedication will be instrumental in advancing the Foundation’s initiatives. Her commitment to excellence and proactive approach to fostering inclusive environments make her a valuable addition to our team.
